Although the Safari shared its main body shell with the more popular Chevrolet Nomad, due to Pontiac being one up on the Chevy in the GM corporate ladder, it was embellished with decorative details that made it slightly more upscale in appearance. However, from the beltline down, the Safari’s body panels are totally different than those used on the Nomad, although most of the suspension, brake, and electrical systems are basically the same. Of course, this was back in the day when each GM division designed, engineered, and built its own engines.
