1987 Pontiac Pursuit Concept

In 1987, the Pontiac Pursuit aimed to showcase what cars might look like in the then-distant future of 2000.

While the exterior design of the Pontiac Pursuit was certainly futuristic, it was the ergonomic and technological features that truly predicted the future. Today, drive-by-wire steering is commonplace, as are self-adjusting suspensions, ABS brakes, traction control, and full-time all-wheel drive.

Inside the Pursuit, even more advanced features could be found, such as onboard GPS with a night mode, a sophisticated comlink with conferencing capabilities, and a smartphone-like device with earbuds that could be docked into the headrest when not in use.

Powering the Pontiac Pursuit was a 200hp turbocharged 16-valve 2-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a Getrag five-speed manual transmission.
