1993 CHEVROLET CORVETTE BACKGROUND
1993 marked the Corvette’s 40th birthday, having come quite aways since its humble beginnings in 1953. This 40th Anniversary year brought a standard LT1 350 small block with 300 horsepower, and as an upgrade the awesome ZR-1 package. This included, among many chassis upgrades, a Lotus-designed DOHC 32-valve all-aluminum V8 making 405 horsepower. The LT5 was built for Chevrolet by Mercury Marine, because of their expertise in working with cast-aluminum engines. By the time of the 1993 Chevrolet Corvette, it was well into its 4th-generation, meaning that it was becoming well-sorted. What started out in 1984 as a rough-riding, noisy, crude, underpowered pretender had become a very respectable sports car with world-class performance and reasonable comfort and utility.
