Originally applied to two-door hardtop coupe and convertible versions of Chevrolet’s Bel Air in 1958, the Impala name was subsequently used in its own right to signify a top-of-the-range luxury trim level rather than a separate and distinct body style. Marketed as ‘All New, All Over Again,’ Chevrolets exhibited a progressively more modern appearance each year during this period, with increased length, reduced height, and greater width compared to the preceding year.

The 1958 Impala Sport Convertible served as Chevy’s prestigious model that year, boasting approximately 55,000 units sold and featuring its distinctive and lavish trim package, which included the distinctive “pitchfork” design on the rear fenders and the spinner hubcaps. The new 348 cubic-inch engine on the side of the body was adapted from a truck engine and could deliver up to 315 horsepower with its triple carburetors, although owners expressed dissatisfaction with its 9mpg fuel efficiency.
