1972 Chevy Nova
1972 CHEVY NOVA CARRIES OVER
The 3rd-generation of Nova had begun in 1968 and was well underway and selling well. “Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke”, and they didn’t. They had a winning formula in the Nova lineup and Chevy wasn’t about to screw it up. So the ’72 Nova was pretty much carried over from prior years, with the usual minor trim and detail changes. Clearly they did something right because 1972 was one of the Nova’s best-selling years ever with 349,733 units. Carmakers would kill for numbers like that today. For perspective, that’s about how many Accords Honda will sell this year. Nova production moved to Norwood OH, alongside the Camaro, which which it shared platforms.
1972 CHEVY NOVA GETS LOADS OF NEW OPTIONS
12,309 Super Sports were built this year in coupe only. A new Rally Sport (RS) option package came with upgraded suspension for improved handling and found 33,319 takers. It was possible to combine the RS with other models including the SS. Sunroofs became available for the first time midyear. The high-backed Strato-Bucket seats from last year’s Camaro and Vega became optional.
