1971 Plymouth GTX
1971 PLYMOUTH GTX BACKGROUND
1971 was the last year that the GTX would be a stand-alone model. Starting in 1972, the GTX would only be an option package on the Road Runner. But for now, the 1971 Plymouth GTX would receive an entirely new body, no body panel carried over. It was now much less boxy, and much more fluid and aerodynamic in shape. Chrysler called it the “fuselage body shape”.

1971 PLYMOUTH GTX ENGINE OPTIONS
The Muscle Car Market peaked in 1970 and from then on, performance was headed south, other than a few bright spots, here and there. 1971 would be the last year for the big blocks in the Plymouth GTX. It was still possible to get two versions of the 440 Magnum, and this was the last year for the top-dog 426 Hemi. The 440s would make it one more year, then it was small blocks from then on.
