MAG Auction-Reno 2016

MAG Auction-Reno 2016

MAG AUCTIONS-RENO 2016 AT HOT AUGUST NIGHTS
2016 was MAG Auctions (it stands for Motorsport Auction Group) first time at Hot August Nights, and they hit the road running. Barrett-Jackson used to do this event, but now it’s MAG’s turn. As before, it was held at the enormous Reno Convention Center. There were more incredible cars than you could count, bidding, as is so often the case, was all over the board, with some cars going higher than expected, and others going to less. It was well-organized and the setup allowed the audience of bidders to walk right up to the cars when they were on the block, for one last look, even while the bidding was going. It was a relaxed event for the bidders, testifying to the organization and implementation of it all by MAG’s capable staff.

So, let’s look at some cars, already…

DAVE KINDIG OF “BITCHIN’ RIDES” BRINGS THE FUTURELINER

Dave Kindig is both the owner of Kindigit Cars in Salt Lake City UT, and the star of the Velocity Channel hit TV show “Bitchin’ Rides”. He’s a self-taught auto designer and fabricator, and if you’ve ever seen the show, you already know how good he is at both. He’s also a nice guy. I met him at the MAG Auction-Reno 2016, where he was doing a meet-and-greet in front of the fabulous 1939 General Motors Futurliner. Built by GMs skunk works to house and transport GM’s much-vaunted Futurama Car Shows of the 1940s and 50s, this one was brought to Kindig’s shop, in one of the TV episodes, to be fully restored. They did a masterful job of it, even down to locating a surplus jet engine to display in the cargo hold, which is what it did originally, when used in the Futurama Shows.
