Like the 1970 model year, you could get the 1971 Challenger with numerous engine options, from a relatively-benign straight-6 to thunderous hemi-V8's.
The 1971 Challenger Saw Minor but Meaningful Changes
Building on the momentum that the 1970 Challenger had enjoyed, the 1971 model year saw minor changes save for the dropping of the Challenger Deputy from the lineup. In its place, the Challenger Coupe became the entry level option and could be had with eigher a straight-6 or an optional V8. The 1971 Dodge Challenger continued to earn strong sales despite a changing macroeconomic landscape.
