Cadillac Brougham Models & History 1991

Cadillac’s Brougham series again consisted of the Brougham sedan and special edition Brougham d’Elegance sedan (option code V4S).

Power was supplied by the revised 5.0-liter V8 with throttle body injection (TBI). The “new” 5.0-liter V-8 was rated at 170 horsepower, and featured roller valve lifters for less friction and cast iron exhaust manifolds contoured for minimal flow resistance. Available previously only with the Coachbuilder Package, the 185-horsepower 5.7-liter V-8 with TBI was now a stand-alone Brougham engine option. Both engines were paired with the 4L60 Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.

Final drive ratio was 3.08:1 (3.73:1 with Coachbuilder and Armor options).

Formerly optional, but now standard features of the Brougham were rear sail panel reading lamps, passenger seat power recliner and six-way power seat adjuster, and leather-trimmed steering wheel.

New standard features included electronic variable orifice steering system in which steering effort was reduced during low-speed driving and increased during high-speed maneuvers to improve stability, and a new ride package. This package consisted of deflected disc shock absorbers, new body mounts and high-rate front and rear springs.
