2019 Dodge Challenger Guide: Specs, Performance & More

Everything 2019 Challenger: Specifications, Production Numbers, Color Codes, Model History, & More

For the Dodge Challenger, 2019 was more of an alphabet soup than any other year to date. Names were added and deleted, and appearance became more important than ever.

Aside from add-ons galore, the Challenger drove on in the same style it had been carrying for over a decade. That isn’t to say that it was looking old fashion, but one could argue by now that there was not enough difference between a 2009 Challenger and the newest model 10 years later.

So, this level of Challenger is drastically different in every area except the one it truly needed help with – the engine. The 305hp six-cylinder engine remains the only option for these two and unfortunately, that is lousy 2019-power. Honestly, with this being a 4000lb car, there is little reason for this level of horsepower and performance.

Heck, even a 2019 Toyota Camary V6 has 301hp – and weighs 500lbs less! Imagine pulling up to a red light and being smoked by an old lady getting groceries??

The big changes for the SXT and GT came in function, not speed/power. Both cars were grouped together – with the SXT being the base level and the GT being the over-the-top optioned level. Both cars could get Dodge’s AWD system, but only the GT could get the upgraded looks.

Nope, this isn’t a Scat Pack or Hellcat!

The GT could be optioned with the performance hood, front splitter, wider wheels, Brembo brakes, and suspension upgrades. You could make your GT look like a mini-Scat Pack. It would be the slowest muscle car on the block, but it would look stunning.

Of note, the GT also had a $2,500 cheaper starting price than in 2018.

It does give concern that the Scat Pack and Hellcat aren’t looking different enough from the low-power Challengers anymore.

The R/T and R/T Scat Pack enjoy the widebody treatment that was exclusive to the Demon last year and that did help differentiate them from the lower SXT and GT models.

Base R/T models continued on with the 375hp 5.7L engine and Scat Pack buyers got the 110hp boost. Like the previous year, the 5.7L is getting long in the tooth and in need of a bump in power, where the Scat Pack stays atop most performance coupes as a fantastic deal.

Sad news, but not surprising, the SRT392/392 was dropped for 2019. The Scat Pack had gotten a following and the SRT392 was a bit on the redundant side, so the name was dropped. You were still able to get most of the 392’s goodness in the Scat Pack by adding options, but going too far meant a healthy $60k price tag.

Challenger SRT Hellcat, Redeye

The Hellcat tears through the human realm with a tiny bump in power. At 717hp, the Hellcat is still the dominant ¼mile value – reaching the 10-second mark with little effort for a mere $58k – some $6,000 less than 2018.

With the Demon sent back to the abyss, Dodge decided to give the Hellcat an upgrade. The Hellcat Redeye was the result. With a slightly different intake, the Redeye was infused with 797hp and 707lb-ft of torque. Tenths of a second would be the loss vs. the Demon, but with the savings in price, you could easily fit the same parts to Demonize your Redeye.

** estimate

Dodge was quick to lower the GT’s starting price and also get rid of the SRT392’s higher sticker as well, but cannot seem to give any power boosts to anything short of a Hellcat badge. The 305hp SXT is still in the running for “slowest muscle car for 2019” and the R/T’s 375hp is in desperate need of a “4” in the first digit.

For weekend drag warriors, the Scat Pack, Hellcat, and Redeye will all certainly keep customers smiling. The low 11-second times from the Hellcat/Redeye aside, Scat Pack racers will be happy with their high 12-second passes – and do it in fantastic comfort to boot.

Nappa and Laguna leather abound over the suede and cloth options. Color options remain on the high side of Challenger price tags but are numerous with color and fabric choices.

Hellcat and Redeye enjoy numerous gauge and dash treatments for a more aggressive look to match the speed.

Like 2018, the 2019 rim choices include a bunch from the Charger parts-bin. Saying that, there was still a cornucopia of sizes, looks, colors, and tires to choose from. Wanted a little something different? Go for the 20×9.5in low-gloss black forged aluminum. Need simple? Get a 17″ rim on your SXT – the first time anything under 18″ offered.

Any way you slice it, the Challenger’s rim choices are as plentiful and attractive as ever.

2019 Dodge Challenger Colors

Easily the BEST color palate in the 3rd Generation Challenger history, the 2019’s lineup included Go Mango, Plum Crazy, F8 Green, Octane Red, F5 Blue, Torred, and Yellow Jacket. The only thing missing would be a Sublime color – which seems like it was available but not at the time of brochure printing.

Along with the awesome color palate, you’d have over a half dozen different stripe choices and a color range of them as well. The ability to make your Challenger your own had never been better. Colors, stripes, widebody kits, hood scoops, and shaker-topped engines, and a dozen rims… it was like Christmas!

2019 Dodge Challenger Production Figures

Down 5%, the Challenger’s sales for 2019 could be the start of a downward trend – one that may not be fixed without major changes in its lineup. The lack of change with multiple engines or exterior design may have the public complacent to not purchase a new Challenger.

Something new must arrive before too long.
