1966 CHEVY IMPALA
After the ’65 Impala broke all records as the top-selling single model ever, the ’66 was bound to seem a little anti-climactic. Subtle changes were made to the styling, one very controversial. Impala’s signature triple-round tail lights gave way to very generic-looking rectangular units. They did however wrap around the rear corners, improving the safety aspect somewhat. This is also the first year for an optional vinyl top.

1966 CHEVY IMPALA UPGRADES
The biggest news for ’66 was the availability of Chevy’s might 427 V8, straight from Corvette duty with 425hp. GM introduced its brand new Turbo Hydramatic 3-speed automatic transmission across all its divisions in 1966. A positraction rear axle became optional for the first time. And 4-way power adjustable bucket seats were introduced also.
