Volvo tried a brief departure from the serious working-car approach in 1956/7 in the form of the P1900, an open sports car with glass-fibre body fitted with a 70 bhp version of the PV 1414 cc engine, and capable of 108 mph. This car was intended for export only, though a few were sold in Sweden. Only 67 were built.
