The big news at Pontiac in 1956 was the arrival of the first four-door hardtops, just as at Chevrolet and Ford. The biggest of these was the Star Chief Catalina Custom four-door hardtop, which had a substantial run of 48,035 cars, way outselling the four-door Star Chief sedan, which found only 18,346 buyers.
