1956 FORD SUNLINER BACKGROUND
1956 was a largely a carry-over year for Ford as they geared up for the major changes for the 1957 model year. However, the big news for the 1956 Ford Sunliner and all Ford cars was the switch from 6-volt to 12-volt electrics. Otherwise, the basic body shell of the 1956 Fords was the same as the 1955s, but with nicely upgraded trim that seemed to strike the perfect balance between tasteful and edgy, and just nailed the look. And apparently the buying public agreed, because 58,147 1956 Ford Sunliners were sold, the all-time second-best year for Sunliners, behind only the 1957.
