Soon after the release of the Bentley S1 in 1955, six months later to be exact, Bentley Motors Limited started production on a variation of the S1. This new model was known as the 1955 Bentley S1 Continental. The major difference between the S1s and the S1 Continentals were this top-performing variation distinguished itself by requiring custom coachwork instead of the standard company coachwork. Customers purchasing the S1 Continental had to select the coachwork from the variations offered by the various specialists offering to do their coachwork on the vehicles. This model was seen as somewhat sportier than the traditional S1.
