1940 Dodge Airflow Tank Truck

This 1940 Dodge RX70 Airflow Texaco tanker truck is the centerpiece of the Bill Richardson Transport World collection in Invercargill, New Zealand.  Only 303 of these Dodge Airflows were ever built, with 75 ordered by Texaco.

This particular model was one of the last built in February 1940. After its tenure as a Texaco tanker was over, it was used as a water cart for a contracting company, before ultimately being sent to the scrap yard in the 1970s. A trucking enthusiast in Chicago bought it with the intention of restoring it but never did.

In 1992, Bill Richardson purchased it and had it restored in Invercargill after visiting the Henry Ford museum to obtain measurements for the damaged bodywork. The restoration was completed in November 1996, and it is currently the only functional Airflow remaining.
