The Dictator series were Studebaker’s most popular line for 1935, accounting for nearly half of the 49,062 Studebakers built that year. Built on a 114-inch wheelbase chassis, the Dictator was powered by an inline six-cylinder engine producing 88 hp at 3600 rpm. A three-speed manual transmission was used. The 1935 Dictators featured new hydraulic brakes, the first of Studebaker’s ‘Planar’ independent front suspension systems and new, smaller, 16” wheels with 6” x 16” tires. A rear-mounted spare tire with cover was standard.
