Developed under the technical direction of Ferdinand Porsche, the 8/38 was one of the first models to bear the Mercedes-Benz name after the merger. It boasted a 2.0-liter, side-valve, inline six-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission, semi-elliptic leaf spring suspension, and four-wheel mechanical brakes. Over 17,000 units were produced from 1926 to 1933, known later as the Typ Stuttgart 200.
This specific 8/38 model had previously worked as a taxi, and had a sedan configuration with a division window. A photograph from 1960 showed it in good condition, with U.S. Forces in Germany plates suggesting it may have been brought back to the States by a returning serviceman.
