The Curved Dash Olds was the first mass-produced automobile. It was also the first car produced to bear the name Oldsmobile. From 1901 to 1904, the Curved Dash Olds was the best selling car in the world. Slow, but tough, the Olds could cover the countryside, regardless of the condition of the road.

Over 11,000 of the Curved Dash models were constructed before production ceased in 1907. With its toboggan-like dash, this car had a ‘horse-wanted look’, waiting for the horse to be hitched up. The tiller, used to steer the auto, was set for right-hand drive and the engine was located under the passenger compartment.Indeed, Olds’ many promotional trips and exhibitions helped create the public image of the automobile as a viable and economical alternative to the horse.
